2.5.1 Pointer Gestures

Multipoint or path-based gestures have a single-pointer alternative.

Why it matters

Motor impairments
Complex gestures like swipe or pinch are difficult for users with limited hand mobility.
Alternative devices
Multi-point gestures are physically impossible with head pointers or eye tracking.
Older adults
Age-related tremors and stiff joints make precise gestures harder.
One-handed use
Users may only have one free hand while carrying luggage or pushing a stroller.

Understanding through personas

Yamada (55) — Rheumatoid arthritis

My finger joints are stiff and swiping hurts. With previous/next buttons, a single tap is enough and I can enjoy the carousel content.
